Charterhouse Building Services joins WSP Group
EMC Corporate Finance has completed the £2.4m sale of Tunbridge Wells company Charterhouse Building Services Ltd to WSP Group PLC. The deal is one of six that EMC has advised on or completed in the last few weeks, reinforcing its position as the leading corporate finance boutique in the South East.
Charterhouse, which also has offices in central London, provides building and environmental design engineering services to companies across the South East.
It now becomes part of WSP Group, one of the world’s fastest-growing design and management consultancies headquartered in Holborn, London EC1. It operates as a specialist in the property and infrastructure sectors, providing a full range of services from planning through to design, implementation and maintenance.
Charterhouse MD Steve Booth and his team are joining WSP to enhance the group’s considerable building services capability.
EMC chief executive Nik Askaroff, who led the advising team, said: “The economy may be going through a period of uncertainty, but it’s not really impacting on deal-making. There are still plenty of companies out there looking to grow by acquisition, and as many business owner/managers recognising that their companies can benefit by becoming part of a larger operation.
“The Charterhouse deal is a case in point. WSP’s multi-disciplinary capability and fully-integrated delivery teams will provide exciting new opportunities and enhanced support for Charterhouse’s existing staff and clients.”
Steve Booth added: “We hope to build upon our existing relationships by leveraging the additional support and knowledge that becoming part of WSP brings. We are extremely proud of our track record and heritage, and this move now enables us to deliver a truly world-class service in the future.”
Chris Cole, WSP CEO, commented: “The acquisition of Charterhouse brings to the group additional staff resources and new clients which will reinforce the services we offer in this important business area.”
Existing Charterhouse projects will continue to be serviced by the Charterhouse teams in Tunbridge Wells and London to ensure a smooth transition into the management structure of WSP.
